New York system names physician-in-chief

New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery named Joel Press, MD, physician-in-chief, effective May 1.

In his role, Dr. Press will advance nonoperative musculoskeletal care across the system by supporting regional expansion, optimizing practice operations, and improving access and patient experience, according to a May 6 system news release. He will also oversee diverse clinical programs and be central in initiatives focused on quality, safety, innovation and strategic growth.


Dr. Press, an internationally recognized physical medicine and rehabilitation leader, currently serves as physiatrist-in-chief at HHS and professor of rehabilitation medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City.
