New York hospital CIO takes on chief medical officer duties

Sam Amirfar, MD, CIO of Brooklyn (N.Y.) Hospital Center, has also been named the facility’s chief medical officer.

He had served as chief medical information officer of the hospital since 2014 before transitioning from that role to medical chief in May. He has been CIO since 2018 and will continue to lead IT.

“Given the importance of technology and data analytics in healthcare today, the integration of these two disciplines is becoming more relevant and crucial,” Gary Terrinoni, president and CEO of Brooklyn Hospital Center, told the Brooklyn Eagle in a May 23 story.

Dr. Amirfar oversaw an Epic EHR implementation in 2018 that has led to faster report production and payment processing, the news outlet reported.
