New Hanover Regional Medical Center names new CEO: 4 things to know

New Hanover Regional Medical Center, an 800-bed facility in Wilmington, N.C., has named John Gizdic president and CEO.

Here are four things to know about Mr. Gizdic.

1. He will begin taking over leadership duties July 1 as current CEO Jack Barto prepares to retire.

2. Mr. Gizdic will serve as president, in addition to his current duties as COO, on July 1 before assuming the full CEO position in 2017.

3. Previously, he was vice president of strategic planning and business development at NHRMC.He became COO in 2013.

4. During his tenure at NHRMC, Mr. Gizdic had led or directed several key initiatives, such as creating the physician network that became NHRMC Physicians Group; leading Physician Quality Partners, the medical center's accountable care organization; facilitating numerous joint ventures in partnership with physicians; and spearheading an organization-wide effort to improve efficiencies which has led to a $100 million operational improvement in four years, NHRMC said.
