William (Bill) Robertson has shared plans to retire as CEO of Tacoma, Wash.-based MultiCare Health System, effective Dec. 31.
Florence Chang, MultiCare’s president, will succeed Mr. Robertson Jan. 1 as president and CEO, according to a June 18 news release shared with Becker’s.
Mr. Robertson will work closely with Ms. Chang until his retirement to ensure a smooth transition.
Mr. Robertson joined MultiCare in 2014, and served as president and CEO until 2022. He has served as CEO since 2022. Under his leadership, the system has grown into the region’s largest community-based nonprofit health system, broadening access to primary, specialty and emergency care.
“The privilege of serving MultiCare and building on more than a century of community-centric service has been one of the most rewarding roles of my career,” Mr. Robertson said. “I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to work alongside our talented colleagues and community partners.”
Ms. Chang joined MultiCare as senior vice president and chief information officer in 2006. She also served as executive vice president and chief operating officer before becoming system president in 2022.
MultiCare comprises 13 hospitals and more than 30,000 employees. It serves more than 2.6 million people, the release said.
