Minnesota system CEO to step down after 13 years

Barbara Joers, president and CEO of St. Paul, Minn.-based Gillette Children’s, will step down Jan. 1 after 13 years leading the pediatric specialty health system.

Paula Montgomery, the system’s chief administrative officer and general counsel, began serving as active interim president and CEO Oct. 7, according to an Oct. 7 health system news release.

During Ms. Joers’ tenure, the system established its Cerebral Palsy and Spine Institutes and Gillette Children’s Healthcare Press. She also helped expand the organization’s research and advocacy efforts for children with complex medical conditions.

Ms. Joers joined the system in October 2013 as president and CEO. Before that, she held executive roles at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., according to her LinkedIn profile.
