Hospitals are taking creative steps to cut their losses and still provide the much-needed care. Tri-County Hospital in Wadena, Minn., which may lose up to $850,000 each year providing healthcare no longer covered by GAMC, says it will start paying insurance premiums so 100 GAMC patients can shift over to the more comprehensive MinnesotaCare insurance program.
The premiums will cost the hospital around $10 a month per patient but will cut the hospital’s losses in half. Other rural hospitals in the state are following suit.
