MetroHealth announces leadership shakeup: 13 things to know

Cleveland-based MetroHealth System has announced numerous leadership changes.

Here are 13 things to know about the leaders involved.

Elizabeth Heller Allen has been promoted to senior vice president of external affairs.

1. In her new role, Ms. Allen will oversee the marketing, internal and external communications, government relations and community engagement programs for MetroHealth.

2. Ms. Allen has served as vice president of marketing and communications since October 2013.

3. Previously, she held chief communications positions at Huntington Bancshares, Dell, Staples, Raytheon, Loral Corporation and Citicorp.

Patrick Curry is joining the health system as director of marketing.

4. At MetroHealth, Mr. Curry leads the marketing efforts and develops ongoing strategies to promote the health system's mission and goals. He is responsible for building MetroHealth's brand and image throughout Cuyahoga County.

5. He replaces Denise Smith, who now works for MetroHealth Select, the health system's health plan for employers.

6. Mr. Curry previously served as assistant vice president of clinical marketing strategy for Great Neck, N.Y.-based North Shore-LIJ Health System, where he oversaw strategy development focused on market share growth across the health system

7. He has also held marketing leadership positions at Bronx, N.Y.-based Montefiore Medical Center and Columbus-based OhioHealth, and started his career at Cleveland Clinic.

Charles "Trey" Basham III is joining MetroHealth as manager of marketing and community development.

8.  In his role, Mr. Basham will foster collaboration between MetroHealth's community health advocates and the districts they serve throughout CuyahogaCounty. He will work to increase awareness of the health system's growing network of health centers, emergency departments and other locations around the county where the public can access the health system's services.

9. He previously held marketing positions with The Weather Channel, CDC and the Human Rights Campaign.

10. Mr. Basham reports to Rita Andolsen, director of communications, who came to MetroHealth from WKYC Channel 3 in 2014, where she held positions including news director and director of advocacy and community initiatives.

MetroHealth has appointed Michael Stern as senior vice president and chief of staff.

11. As chief of staff, Mr. Stern will serve as principal advisor to the CEO and in that capacity, handle a wide range of matters of institutional importance. In addition to his duties as chief of staff, he will oversee human resources, patient experience, supply chain, the emergency department, pathology, pharmacy and radiology.

12. Mr. Stern comes to Cleveland after serving as vice president of healthcare services at Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia, a multi-hospital system and Level 1 Trauma Center.

13. Before joining the Einstein Healthcare Network in 2011, he held positions at St. Vincent's Hospital Catholic Medical Centers, and St. Charles Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, all in New York.
