Mr. Varnum will become chief administrative officer for the Mercy Medical Group, the network’s physician organization, effective July 2.
Mr. Varnum served in Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa’s top post for five-plus years. During his tenure, he spearheaded the development of an internal medicine residency program and grew behavioral health services at the hospital. He previously served as vice president of professional services at Mercy Medical Center-Des Moines (Iowa).
Rod Schlader, who most recently served as interim CEO in Mercy Medical Center-Sioux City (Iowa), will step in as interim president and CEO at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.
