Mercy Medical Center CEO Thomas Cecconi to retire, ending 15-year tenure

Canton, Ohio-based Mercy Medical Center President and CEO Thomas E. Cecconi is retiring, effective Dec. 31.

Mr. Cecconi served in the roles since April 2003, prior to which he was executive vice president and COO of the medical center. He came to Mercy from Doctors Hospital of Stark County, located in Perry Heights, Ohio, where he served as president and CEO. His previous roles include serving as COO of Virginia (Minn.) Regional Medical Center and president of Paris (Ill.) Community Hospital.

During his tenure at Mercy Medical Center, he oversaw numerous projects, including renovating and expanding the emergency department as well as establishing new outpatient health centers.

Mr. Cecconi is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and in 1996, he received the CEO Award of Excellence from the College of Osteopathic Healthcare Professionals.

Mr. Cecconi will continue in his current roles until Aug. 1, when he will take on the role of CEO emeritus. The medical center has yet to find an interim leader. A. David Jimenez, chief performance officer at Cleveland-based Sisters of Charity Health System, will assist with the transition. Mercy Medical Center is a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System.
