MemorialCare Health System names Yair Katz CFO of 3 Long Beach hospitals

Fountain Valley, Calif.-based MemorialCare Health System has named Yair Katz CFO of Long Beach (Calif.) Memorial, Miller Children's & Women's Hospital Long Beach and Community Hospital Long Beach.

A Los Angeles native, Mr. Katz has substantial experience in the healthcare, academic and nonprofit sectors. He most recently served as Assistant Vice President and Associate University Controller for University of Southern California. In that role, Mr. Katz was responsible for reviewing the operational and financial performance of the three USC hospitals on a monthly basis and the re-design and implementation of their financial system. He also served as a liaison between the university and USC hospitals and was responsible for enhancing communication and collaboration among the USC Healthcare Enterprise executives and the university.

Mr. Katz spent the early part of his career in public accounting, including nine years with PricewaterhouseCoopers in its Los Angeles office. He was responsible for leading large audit engagements for healthcare entities, universities and nonprofit organizations during his tenure with PwC.

In his new position, Mr. Katz will fill the post vacated by John Bishop, who became CEO of the three MemorialCare hospitals in Long Beach in June.

"Yair brings a wealth of experience, expertise and a demonstrated track record of success in all aspects of healthcare finance," said Mr. Bishop. "For several years, we witnessed his impressive work and key role in the annual financial audit of MemorialCare and have been highly impressed with his knowledge of our organization, his technical skills, communication style and overall professionalism."

Mr. Katz showed enthusiasm about his new role. "I'm excited to be aligned with these leading Long Beach hospitals, a great health system, [a] remarkable leadership team and a wonderful community that my family calls home," he said. "I look forward to working with our outstanding employees, physicians, board members and volunteers."
