Most recently, Ms. Parkhill served as vice chairman and CFO at Dallas-based Comerica, a financial services company. Comerica said Tuesday that Ms. Parkhill had resigned “to pursue other opportunities,” according to the report.

Ms. Parkhill will succeed Gary Ellis, who helped design Medtronic’s recent $50 billion acquisition of Dublin-based Covidien. He has served as CFO since 2005. Mr. Ellis will retire from Medtronic in 2017 and remain on the company’s executive committee. He will also “lead other key functions within his portfolio of responsibilities until his retirement,” Medtronic said, according to the report.
