Lurie Children’s taps head of pediatric surgery

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago has selected Mehul Raval, MD, as head of the division of pediatric surgery, the hospital said April 4.

Dr. Raval first joined Lurie Children’s in 2018 and currently serves as vice chair of quality and safety for the surgical department. He is also a professor of surgery and pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago and director of the Pediatric Surgery Research Fellowship Program.

“Dr. Raval is an outstanding physician-scientist who has spent a large part of his career focusing on improving the surgery experience for children,” Thomas Inge, MD, PhD, surgeon-in-chief and chair of Lurie Children’s surgical department, said in a news release. “His research on patient safety and improving recovery post-surgery has already set a new standard in our field. He is the best choice for the next leader of our premier group of general pediatric surgeons.”
