Most recently, Ms. Smith served as senior director of patient and family engagement. During her tenure, she spearheaded efforts to establish patient and family councils to improve care quality and patient experience across Vanderbilt hospitals. Under her leadership, Vanderbilt became one of the first academic medical centers in the country to implement these councils.
Ms. Smith’s nursing career spans more than 50 years. She joined Vanderbilt in 1993 as the director of nursing and administrative director for what later became Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
