Long Beach Memorial Medical Center CEO Diana Hendel resigns

Diana Hendel, CEO of Long Beach (Calif.) Memorial Medical Center, has announced her resignation.

Ms. Hendel has served as CEO of the hospital for six years. She announced her decision to go on medical leave approximately four months ago, and the hospital has since been in talks about her future career plans, according to the Long Beach Post. She will also leave her positions as CEO of Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach and Community Hospital Long Beach.

Ms. Hendel, who holds a Pharm.D. from the University of California, San Francisco, was appointed CEO in January 2009. She previously served as vice president of Anaheim (Calif.) Memorial Medical Center, executive director of MemorialCare and the Physician Society and administrator of the San Clemente, Calif., campus of Saddleback Memorial Medical Center. She also was COO of Long Beach Memorial Medical Center for two years before being appointed CEO, according to the report.

Succession planning will begin immediately by Bary Arbuckle, CEO of MemorialCare Health System, and Tammie McMann Brailsford, COO.
