Susan Huang, MD, was appointed president and CEO of Portland, Ore.-based Legacy Health, effective June 16.
Dr. Huang will join Legacy Health from Renton, Wash.-based Providence, an integrated health system with 51 hospitals and more than 1,000 clinics across seven states.
She serves as chief physician executive for Providence and chief executive of the Providence Clinical Network, which oversees the system’s ambulatory operations with more than 10,000 physicians and advanced practice providers and 30,000 caregivers.
Dr. Huang previously served as chief medical officer of Providence’s South division and CEO of Providence Health Network, a California payer-provider organization. Before that, she led value-based care as chief value medical officer at Palo Alto Foundation Medical Group, part of Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health.
Legacy Health in a March 31 news release highlighted Dr. Huang’s ability to bridge clinical care with strategy and operations, as well as her experience in innovation, including work on an early AI model in healthcare developed with Google.
In a LinkedIn post, Dr. Huang said she is “inspired by the organization’s deep commitment to patients” and its mission-driven caregivers.
“I am deeply honored to join Legacy Health at this pivotal moment in healthcare,” she said.
Legacy Health is a six-hospital system with about 14,000 employees, according to its website. It includes a children’s hospital, a 24-hour mental and behavioral health services center and more than 70 primary care, specialty and urgent care clinics.
