Kurt Newman, MD. President and CEO of Children’s National Health System (Washington, D.C.). Dr. Newman has been with Children’s National for more than 30 years, beginning in 1984 as a surgeon and becoming surgeon-in-chief and senior vice president for the Joseph E. Robert, Jr. Center for Surgical Care in 2003. He helped found the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation in 2009 and moved on to serve as its vice president before being named president and CEO of Children’s National in 2011. He was a member of the board of governors of the American Pediatric Surgical Association, was chair of the Surgery Section of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is currently a professor of surgery and pediatrics at George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C.
