American College of Physicians Names Dr. Steven Weinberger CEO

American College of Physicians has appointed Steven E. Weinberger, MD, as executive vice president and CEO, according to an ACP news release.

ACP is the largest medical specialty organization and the second-largest physician group in the United States. As EVP and CEO, Dr. Weinberger will be responsible for administration of medical education and publishing, membership services, business development and public policy. A board-certified internist and pulmonologist, he previously served as ACP’s deputy executive vice president since 2009 and senior vice president for medical education and publishing since 2004.

Dr. Weinberger succeeds John Tooker, MD, who announced his intention to step down in Oct. 2009. He will assume the position of EVP and CEO on July 19.
