Julie Miller-Phipps to retire after 45-year career with Kaiser Permanente

Julie Miller-Phipps is retiring as president of Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente’s Southern California and Hawaii markets.

Ms. Miller-Phipps plans to retire in July after serving as president of its Southern California market since 2016 and president of the Hawaii region since 2020, according to a Jan. 24 Kaiser Permanente news release shared with Becker’s

Her retirement comes 45 years after she began her career with Kaiser.

Before taking on her current role, she was president of Kaiser Permanente Georgia. She also previously served as senior vice president of Southern California’s Orange County service area.

“[Ms.] Miller-Phipps’ leadership has driven many innovations and improvements in the care and services offered to Kaiser Permanente members,” the health system said in the release. “She has championed population health efforts and has helped develop strong community partnerships to improve economic, social and environmental conditions that impact health and advance health equity.”

Kaiser also said she has provided key leadership throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Southern California region has earned various accolades during her tenure, including continuing a record of achieving the Office of the Patient Advocate’s top rating for “quality of medical care.”

Kaiser’s Southern California region serves about 4.8 million members, according to the release.
