Institute for Healthcare Improvement names Dr. Enrique Ruelas to board

The Institute for Healthcare Improvement has announced the appointment of Enrique Ruelas, MD, former Secretary of the General Health Council of Mexico, to its board of directors.

The IHI is a leading innovator in health and healthcare improvement worldwide. It focuses on five key areas, including person- and family-centered care, patient safety and the triple aim.

Dr. Ruelas held government positions in Mexico for 11 years before joining IHI in 2011. Most recently, he was Secretary of the General Health Council of Mexico, the body responsible for all mandatory health regulations and accreditations in Mexico. He is currently a professor and director of public policy and health systems at the Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey and immediate past president of the National Academy of Medicine of Mexico.

Dr. Ruelas has also served as president of the Latin American Society for Quality in Health Care, chair of the Latin American Consortium for Innovation, Quality and Safety in Health Care and president of the International Society for Quality in Health Care.
