San Francisco-based Innovaccer has appointed Paul Black, former CEO of Allscripts, to its board of directors, according to a news release shared with Becker’s.

Mr. Black led Allscripts from 2012 to 2022. Before that, he spent more than 13 years at Cerner, where he served as chief sales officer and later COO. During that time, Cerner grew from $100 million to more than $1.5 billion in annual revenue. Mr. Black began his career at IBM in sales, marketing and professional services leadership roles.

Mr. Black invests in, and serves as a board member or adviser to, more than eight AI companies. He spent 16 years on the executive committee of Truman Medical Centers, a Kansas City, Mo.-based academic safety-net health system, and later chaired it. He also serves on the board of the Harry S. Truman Library Institute, and Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health appointed him to its Board of Stewardship Trustees in 2025.

“Healthcare has been on a long journey from paper to digital, and the next chapter is making that digital infrastructure actually intelligent,” Mr. Black said.

Innovaccer said its Healthcare Autonomy Platform unifies clinical, claims, financial and operational data to power AI-driven workflows for health systems and payers.

“What he understands better than almost anyone is that the data layer is what determines whether AI delivers or disappoints,” said Abhinav Shashank, co-founder and CEO of Innovaccer.

Innovaccer’s customers include Orlando Health, Adventist HealthCare and Banner Health.
