Highmark Health hires BCBS exec as new CIO

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota’s John Orner has been hired as Highmark Health’s new chief investment officer. Mr. Orner will succeed Dennis Cronin, who is set to retire by the end of this year after 28 years with the company, according to a June 28 news release.

Mr. Orner will oversee Highmark’s investment activities and corporate insurance functions. He brings 30 years of treasury, business development and investment experience to the payer, the statement said.

Mr. Orner has served as BCBS of Minnesota’s CIO since 2009.
