Dr. Hoekstra currently serves as senior vice president and associate dean of clinical and academic network development at Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He will continue to serve in the associate dean role post-September.

Dr. Hoekstra came to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in 2003 as a professor and chair of emergency medicine. In March, Wake Forest Baptist signed a definitive agreement with Chapel Hill-based University of North Carolina Health Care, High Point Regional’s parent, to transition ownership of the health system.

Dr. Hoekstra will replace High Point Regional President and CEO Ernie Bovio, who will assume a leadership role at UNC Health Care in September. Mr. Bovio served at the helm of the health system for the last four years.
