Hi-Desert Medical Center CEO out with Tenet takeover: 3 things to know

Tenet Healthcare Western Region CEO Jeffrey Koury said Robert Tyk, who has been CEO of Joshua Tree, Calif.-based Hi-Desert Medical Center since December 2013, was not offered employment by Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare, which took over operation of the medical center July 15, according to The Desert Trail.

Here are three things to know about the decision.

1. The decision comes after Mr. Tyk led the Hi-Desert Memorial Healthcare District board of directors through a long process that lead to a definitive agreement for Tenet to operate Hi-Desert Medical Center and related healthcare facilities under a long-term lease with the district.

2. Legal issues contributed to the decision. "Due to Bob's role in the transition on behalf of the district, Tenet is legally precluded from offering him employment," Mr. Koury said in the report.

“I appreciate Bob’s hard work and professionalism over the last several months; he played a key role in helping ensure the successful transition of HDMC’s operations to Tenet."

3. Randy Kelley, who recently completed a term as interim CEO of Bartlett, Tenn.-based St. Francis Hospital, has been named interim CEO of Hi-Desert Medical Center. Tenet officials have also named a new hospital governing board.
