Heart of Florida Health Center CEO resigns: 8 things to know

Rich Mutarelli, CEO of Heart of Florida Health Center in Ocala, is resigning, effective Nov. 1, according to an Ocala Star Banner report.

Here are eight things to know:

1. Mr. Mutarelli is leaving the post to serve as CFO at Maricopa Integrated Health System in Phoenix.

2. He previously served as CFO at Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala.

3. Heart of Florida Health Center, a healthcare provider for Marion County’s low-income population, struggled to gain funding in recent years.

4. The health center received financial support from Munroe Regional Medical Center, Ocala Regional Medical Center and the Florida Department of Health Marion County in the past.

5. However, Munroe is ending its annual $400,000 allotment to the health center this year. Ocala Regional Medical Center ended its annual payment to health center years ago.

6. Additionally, the Florida Department of Health Marion County is planning to cut funding allotted to the center.

7. Mr. Mutarelli struggled to increase funding for the organization. However, Heart of Florida Board Chairman Thomas Buss noted Mr. Mutarelli “leadership and contributions” to the health center in a written statement and also said “he will be missed.”

8. Heart of Florida Health Center is a federally qualified health center providing care for around 58,000 medical and dental patients this year.
