Jack Atwater, MD, has been named chief medical officer of HCA Florida Capital Hospital in Tallahassee.
Dr. Atwater has spent 30 years as an anesthesiologist. He has worked with Nashville, Tenn.-based Envision Healthcare since 2001, providing team-based anesthetic care across two hospitals and three ambulatory surgery centers in Tallahassee. For 13 years, Dr. Atwater also served as a board of trustees member for HCA Florida Capital Hospital. From 2020-23, he was board chairman.
As CMO, Dr. Atwater will collaborate with medical staff and clinical teams to advance quality and patient experience, the hospital said in an Oct. 27 news release.
He previously served in the U.S. Air Force, where he worked in critical care air transport and on surgical missions in underserved areas overseas. During his service, he was qualified as an aircrew member and flight surgeon on several military aircraft.
