Michael Cuffe, MD, executive vice president and chief clinical officer of Nashville-based HCA Healthcare, will step down from his role effective Aug. 31, according to a June 18 SEC filing.
“After a distinguished career dedicated to patient care and clinical excellence, Dr. Michael Cuffe will be stepping away from HCA Healthcare,” a spokesperson for the health system told Becker’s June 19. “He will remain in an executive consultant role until February 2027 to assist with his transition.”
Dr. Cuffe joined HCA in 2011 as president and CEO of physician services, a role he held for roughly a decade. Under his leadership, HCA became one of the largest sponsors of graduate medical education programs in the U.S., training more than 5,000 residents and fellows across 61 teaching hospitals.
He was named chief clinical officer of HCA Healthcare in January 2022, replacing Jonathan Perlin, MD, PhD, who left to serve as president and CEO of The Joint Commission.
Prior to joining HCA, he served as chief medical officer and vice president for ambulatory services at Duke University Health System in Durham, N.C.
