Hackensack Meridian Health hospital taps gastroenterology chief

Lee Peng, MD, PhD, has been named chief of gastroenterology at Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune Township, N.J.

He joins Edison, N.J.-based Hackensack Meridian Health from Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, where he served as division chief of hepatology and medical director of liver transplantation. 

As chief of gastroenterology, Dr. Peng will lead efforts to expand specialized gastroenterology services and advance clinical research, according to a March 18 news release. He specializes in advanced endoscopic procedures and care for liver diseases. 

Avik Sarkar, MD, and Haroon Shahid, MD, advanced gastroenterologists, also recently joined Jersey Shore University Medical Center and will work closely with Dr. Peng.
