Geisinger selects Dr. Jaewon Ryu as permanent CEO: 5 things to know

Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger named Jaewon Ryu, MD, president and CEO, effective July 1.

Five things to know:

1. Dr. Ryu has served as interim president and CEO since November 2018. He replaced David T. Feinberg, MD, who left for a leadership role at Google.

2. He was also executive vice president and CMO of the health system.

3. Dr. Ryu’s previous experience includes serving as president of integrated care delivery for Humana and CMO of University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System in Chicago.

4. He was a White House fellow at the Department of Veterans Affairs.

5. An emergency medicine physician, he has also held leadership roles at Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser-Permanente and CMS.

“In his recent roles as CMO and as interim CEO, Dr. Ryu has fostered a culture at Geisinger that pushes us to bring the most innovative care to our patients and communities,” said Geisinger Board Chairman John C. Bravman, PhD. “He has driven tremendous progress here, and we are confident he will continue to do an excellent job leading our path forward.”
