Former Lehigh Valley leader takes helm of Emerus WellSpan market

Dan Hernandez was appointed CEO of the Emerus WellSpan Health Market.

York, Pa.-based WellSpan Health is set to open three new hospitals in early 2026 through a partnership with microhospital developer Emerus: WellSpan Newberry Hospital in Newberry Township, Pa.; WellSpan Carlisle (Pa.) Hospital; and WellSpan Shrewsbury Hospital in New Freedom, Pa. 

Mr. Hernandez will work alongside David Maxwell, senior vice president of operations for the East Division at Emerus, according to a news release from the developer.

Mr. Hernandez previously served as administrator for family and internal medicine at Allentown, Pa.-based Lehigh Valley Health Network. Before that, he was executive administrator for emergency services at Pittsburgh-based UPMC.
