Kevin Sexton, former president and CEO of Silver Spring, Md.-based Holy Cross Health, has been nominated to lead a state agency that regulates hospital rates.
Five things to know:
1. Gov. Wes Moore nominated Mr. Sexton for chair of the Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission, according to an Aug. 6 news release from the governor’s office.
2. Mr. Sexton served as president and CEO of Holy Cross Hospital from 1998 to 2016 and was an HSCRC commissioner for eight years, including six years as vice chair.
3. During his tenure at Holy Cross Health, he oversaw the creation of the Holy Cross Health Network, which managed community health centers and prenatal care facilities for uninsured patients.
4. If confirmed, Mr. Sexton will lead the commission as Maryland transitions its Total Cost of Care Model and Achieving Healthcare Efficiency through Accountable Design (AHEAD) Model, which are designed to improve care quality, health outcomes and cost efficiency.
5. The Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission regulates hospital rates across the state and oversees Maryland’s unique all-payer hospital payment system.
