Dr. Royer most recently served as president and CEO of CHRISTUS Health, which is headquartered in Irving, Texas. He succeeds Ron Anderson, MD, who has been serving at the helm of Parkland for the past 29 years. The hospital’s board of managers voted in August not to renew Dr. Anderson’s contract when it expires at the end of the year.

In August, Parkland Memorial came under fire for committing a string of patient safety violations, endangering its Medicare status. The hospital submitted a corrective action plan, which was accepted by CMS. However, state regulators found the hospital still in “immediate jeopardy” during a follow-up inspection. The hospital has since agreed to enter into a systems improvement agreement with CMS.
