Dr. Ruben D. Penaranda named chief of staff for Florida hospital: 3 things to know

Pulmonologist Ruben D. Penaranda, MD, has been named chief of staff for Coral Gables, Fla.-based Doctors Hospital, part of Baptist Health South Florida, according to a report published by Miami's Community Newspapers.

Here are three things to know about Dr. Penaranda.

1.  Dr. Penaranda succeeds outgoing chief of staff Percy W. Aitken, MD.

2. Prior to his appointment as chief of staff, Dr. Penaranda served a two-year term as vice chief of staff at Doctors Hospital. He has also served as secretary-treasurer. He is currently on the hospital's board of directors and is the director of respiratory services and director of critical care at Doctors Hospital.

2. Dr. Penaranda is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine.

3. Joining Dr. Penaranda as officers on the Doctors Hospital medical executive committee is infectious disease specialist Richard L. Levine, MD, who was elected vice chief of staff, and anesthesiologist José J. Dávila, MD, who was elected secretary-treasurer.
