Dr. Margaret Van Bree named president of Rhode Island Hospital

Margaret M. Van Bree, DrPH, has been appointed to serve as president for Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, the largest hospital in the Providence-based Lifespan health system, and its pediatric division, Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Her position is effective Jan. 5, 2015.

Most recently, Dr. Van Bree was senior vice president and CEO of St. Luke’s Medical Center in Houston. She has also served as COO at numerous academic medical centers, including the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, and Amplatz Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, Charlottesville-based University of Virginia Health System and the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison.

Dr. Van Bree succeeds Timothy J. Babineau, MD, who will continue to serve as president and CEO of the Lifespan system.
