San Francisco-based Dignity Health, a member of CommonSpirit Health, has appointed Gregory Eberhart, MD, as chief medical officer of California Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles, according to a July 15 news release shared with Becker’s.
This marks Dr. Eberhart’s return to Dignity Health, where he held several leadership roles before leaving to become chief medical officer at a New Mexico hospital.
Dr. Eberhart most recently served as CMO of Memorial Medical Center, a Lifepoint Health hospital in Las Cruces, N.M., where he led patient safety, quality improvement and clinical performance initiatives, according to the release. Before that, he worked for Roseville, Calif.-based Adventist Health as vice president and medical officer of the system’s North Coast network.
He previously spent five years within Dignity Health as vice president and chief medical officer at Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael, Calif., from 2017 to 2022, supporting cardiovascular service line integration and physician engagement.
His earlier Dignity Health tenure included interim posts as president and CEO of Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley, Calif., and interim chief physician executive for the Greater Sacramento market, where he helped co-lead the system’s COVID-19 vaccine response.
“His deep understanding of our mission, extensive clinical leadership experience, and commitment to collaboration make him an outstanding addition to our team,” Brian Smolskis, president of California Hospital Medical Center, said in the release.
Dignity Health California operates 29 acute care hospitals and more than 200 care centers, staffed by over 9,000 physicians and 35,000 employees across five markets statewide.
