Cone Health names chief value-based care officer from Intermountain

Ryan Christensen was appointed chief value-based care officer of Greensboro, N.C.-based Cone Health.

Mr. Christensen will lead the system’s population health and value-based care strategy, including efforts to strengthen clinical integration, improve the patient experience and reduce total cost of care across Cone Health’s service area, according to according to an Aug. 17 news release. He will oversee population health operations and work with clinical, financial and technology leaders to expand value-based partnerships and drive performance across all payer segments.

He joins Cone Health from Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Health, where he was enterprise vice president of operations for proactive care services. In that role, he led enterprisewide population health initiatives supporting more than 1 million covered lives and helped drive financial and operational improvements in Medicare Advantage and other risk-based programs, according to the release. He previously held leadership roles in medical group operations, business development and hospital operations.

“Ryan brings a strong record of transforming value-based care models and delivering measurable results,” Cone Health CEO Paul Krakovitz, MD, said in the release. “His experience and leadership will help accelerate our work to create a more integrated, high-performing system that improves the health of the communities we serve.”

Mr. Christensen said he looks forward to advancing value-based care and strengthening partnerships at the system.

Cone Health, part of Risant Health, has five hospitals, six ambulatory care centers and 150 physician practices across the North Carolina Piedmont, and provides Medicare Advantage coverage through HealthTeam Advantage.
