James Leonard, DO, is leaving his position as CEO of Northwest Health-Porter in Valparaiso, Ind., according to a message from Don Bivacca, vice president of operations for Region 3 at parent company Community Health Systems, based in Franklin, Tenn.
In his message, obtained by Becker’s on May 30, Mr. Bivacca told employees Dr. Leonard is leaving “to explore new professional opportunities.”
Dr. Leonard was appointed CEO of Northwest Health-Porter in December 2023, becoming the first physician to helm the organization.
Before that, he held various roles at Northwest Health, including market chief medical officer.
“Dr. Leonard has shared that it has been a privilege to serve alongside our talented medical staff, dedicated employees, outstanding administrative team, and the board of trustees,” Mr. Bivacca said. “He is proud of what has been accomplished together and grateful for the support he received throughout his time here.”
He told employees a national search for a permanent CEO will begin immediately, and Thomas Rohs, MD, current chief medical officer at Northwest Health, will serve as interim CEO.
Becker’s has reached out to Northwest Health for comment and will update this story if more information becomes available.
Valparaiso-based Northwest Health is a regional healthcare network with three hospitals, including Northwest Health-Porter, and an extensive medical group.
