Washington D.C.-based Children’s National Hospital’s executive team has welcomed two new clinical experts to oversee critical care medicine and critical cardiac care.
Steven Shein, MD, has been named chief of critical care medicine. He is a nationally renowned expert in pediatric intensive care. Dr. Shein previously served as chief of pediatric critical care medicine at UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, where he led the PICU and spearheaded initiatives to improve training and operational performance among pediatric clinical staff, according to a Dec. 18 news release.
On the same day, Children’s National also named Lillian Su, MD, as chief of cardiac critical care. Her appointment marks a return to the hospital, where she worked as an attending physician from 2008-16, according to a release shared with Becker’s. Most recently, she served as medical director of the cardiovascular ICU at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
Both leaders bring a strong research pedigree to their roles. Dr. Shein has authored more than 120 peer-reviewed papers and co-founded a leading bronchiolitis research network, while Dr. Su’s academic work focuses on improving team performance during cardiac emergencies and the integration of technology in pediatric critical care.
