Kansas City, Mo.-based Children’s Mercy’s inaugural chief people officer is taking part in its voluntary early retirement program.

Chief People Officer Michelle Wimes is departing from the organization after nearly six years and will “begin the next chapter of [her] journey,” she wrote in a July 1 LinkedIn post.

The pediatric health system began offering voluntary early retirement to an undisclosed number of employees in June.

Ms. Wimes joined Children’s Mercy in 2020 as its inaugural chief equity and inclusion officer and was named chief people officer in October, according to her LinkedIn profile.

She expressed gratitude for her colleagues and pointed to strengthened culture and new capabilities during her tenure.

“This decision was not an easy one,” Ms. Wimes wrote. “However, life has a way of reminding us that every season has a purpose. At this moment, my family needs more of my time and attention, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to focus on them while also making space for reflection, renewal, travel, writing, speaking, mentoring, and whatever new adventures await.”
