Children’s Health taps chief investment officer

Dallas-based Children’s Health has appointed Valbona Schwab as executive vice president and chief investment officer.

Ms. Schwab will lead the system’s long-term investment activities, including investment strategy, governance, portfolio construction, manager sourcing, due diligence and investment operations, according to a Feb. 16 health system news release. She will work closely with the Children’s Health Investment Committee.

She brings more than two decades of experience overseeing multibillion-dollar endowment and pension portfolios across higher education and healthcare.

Ms. Schwab most recently served as deputy chief investment officer at Grinnell (Iowa) College, where she restructured the institution’s $2.8 billion endowment. She previously was managing director at Cambridge, Mass.-based Beth Israel Lahey Health, where she advised the chief investment officer on a $4 billion endowment and pension portfolio and led day-to-day investment management during an interim period from April 2017 to July 2018.

Earlier in her career, she was portfolio manager and head of research at Somerville, Mass.-based Mass General Brigham, where endowment and pension assets grew from $4 billion to $13 billion during her tenure.
