Chicago health system names interim CEO

Mark Rosenblatt, MD, PhD, is set to serve as interim CEO of Chicago-based University of Illinois Hospital and Clinics.

The change, announced by UIC Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs Robert Barish, MD, on March 20, is pending approval by the University of Illinois board of trustees. Dr. Rosenblatt would assume the interim CEO role on May 16, while also remaining executive dean for the University of Illinois College of Medicine.

Dr. Barish announced the interim CEO days after announcing that Michael Zenn is set to step down as CEO in May and move into the new role of senior advisor for enterprise strategic initiatives within the university's office of the vice chancellor for health affairs.

Dr. Rosenblatt is executive dean for the University of Illinois College of Medicine; professor of ophthalmology, Illinois Lions/Charles I. Young Chair in Ocular Research; director of the Corneal Regenerative Medicine Laboratory; and associate vice chancellor for physician affairs.

University of Illinois Hospital and Clinics is part of the university's UI Health enterprise. The health system includes a 455-bed hospital and more than 20 outpatient and specialty clinics.
