CEO of San Francisco’s Chinese Hospital abruptly departs: 5 things to know

Brenda Yee, CEO of San Francisco-based Chinese Hospital, stepped down, according to a San Francisco Business Times report.

Here are five things to know:

1. Ms. Yee assumed the CEO role at the hospital in 1999. She was also CEO of the Chinese Community Health Plan.

2. She served as hospital leader during periods of upheaval, including a lawsuit involving a physician group affiliated both with the health plan and Chinese Hospital. The group sued the health plan alleging “breach of contract, unfair business practices and unfair competition,” according to a previous San Francisco Business Times report.

3. Ms. Yee came under fire for  her 2015 pay, which totaled $1.5 million, as well as for hiring her daughter.

4. Hospital spokesman YoungSoo Cho said Ms. Yee’s replacement will be announced Oct. 4.

5. Additionally, the hospital is dividing the CEO role for the hospital and health plan into two separate positions.
