Mr. Yorke was appointed to CEO and president in 1991 and, during his tenure, oversaw the growth and expansion of the hospital. In a letter to SVMC employees, he noted that the hospital is facing a $1.3 million deficit at the end of its fiscal year on Sept. 30 and that his retirement might help facilitate the restoration of the staff’s confidence in new leadership, according to the report.
The SVMC board of trustees appointed Dr. Mark Novotny as the interim CEO and has not yet taken steps to find Mr. Yorke’s replacement.
