Catholic Health System exec joins Virginia Mason Franciscan as chief medical officer

Hans P. Cassagnol, MD, has been appointed to the role of chief medical officer at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health in Tacoma, Wash.

In his new position, Dr. Cassagnol will lead all clinical operations across the system and the Northwest Region of CommonSpirit Health, Virginia Mason Franciscan Health’s parent organization. Previously, he was the executive vice president, chief physician executive and chief clinical officer at Buffalo, N.Y.-based Catholic Health System. 

Dr. Cassagnol has also served in executive roles at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, N.Y., and Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Health System. 

He will resume practice as an obstetrician and gynecologist at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health once he settles into the CMO role.
