California Hospital CEO Resigns

Rick Barnett, CEO of Mercy Medical Center in Redding, Calif., has resigned to take over as senior vice president and executive officer of VHA, based in Irving, Texas, according to a report in the Redding Record Searchlight.

In his new position, Mr. Barnett will oversee 132 hospitals in VHA’s Western division and will leave Mercy in September, according to the report.

Catholic Healthcare West, of which Mercy is a member, will begin a nationwide search to fill Mr. Barnett’s position. If a replacement is not found by September, John Halfhide, CEO of CHW North State and St. Elizabeth Community Hospital in Red Bluff, Calif., will take over as interim CEO of Mercy.
