Broward Health appoints 2 VPs: 8 takeaways

Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Broward Health appointed Alexander M. Fernandez vice president of financial services and Samantha Gardner as vice president of managed care.

Here are five takeaways:

1. Mr. Fernandez most recently served as CFO at Broward Health Medical Center and Salah Foundation Children's Hospital, both located in Fort Lauderdale.

2. He worked at Broward Health since 2014, prior to which, he was COO at Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare.

3. He holds an MBA from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.

4. Ms. Gardner previously served as an associate vice president to the COO of Jackson Health System in Miami.

5. She also launched two physician-related startup companies over the course of her career.

6. She holds an MBA from the University of Florida in Gainesville and a master of health administration degree from University of Phoenix.

7. Both Mr. Fernandez and Ms. Gardner will report directly to Alan Goldsmith, who became Broward Health CFO in August on the heels of three executive resignations.

8. Broward's leadership upheavals and financial difficulties caused its S&P Global credit rating to drop, according to an August Sun-Sentinel report.
