BJC HealthCare taps Richard Liekweg as CEO: 5 things to know

St. Louis-based BJC HealthCare named Richard Liekweg president and CEO, effective Jan. 1, 2018.

Here are five things to know:

1. Mr. Liekweg is currently president of the 15-hospital system, a role he has held since 2016.

2. His previous roles at the health system include executive vice president and group president at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

3. He came to BJC in 2009 from UC San Diego Health and Durham, N.C.-based Duke Health, where he held senior executive positions.

4. He holds master’s degrees in health services administration and business administration from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

5. Mr. Liekweg succeeds Steven H. Lipstein, who led the health system for 18 years.
