BCBS of Alabama names COO

Birmingham-based Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama appointed Tim Vines executive vice president and COO, according to a Birmingham Business Journal report.

Here are four things to know about the executive move.


1. Mr. Vines joined BCBSA 23 years ago. Prior to his appointment as executive vice president and COO, Mr. Vines served as chief administrative officer for the insurer. He also worked in several leadership roles at BCBSA.

 

2. He sits on the board of Birmingham-based Samford University.

3. BCBSA also named Sheila Herringdon vice president of business development. She will direct operations of the payer’s preferred care services subsidiary. Ms. Herringdon has worked at BCBSA for more than 19 years and has held various roles within the organization.

4. The insurer likewise named Mary Smith vice president of treasury operations. Ms. Smith, who joined BCBSA more than 30 years ago, most recently served as director of treasury operations.
