Baylor St. Luke's names Dr. William Brien chief clinical officer: 7 things to know

Houston-based CHI St. Luke's Health–Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center has named William Brien, MD, vice president of medical operations and chief clinical officer.

Here are seven things to know about Dr. Brien.

1. He begins his new job Dec. 9.

2. As vice president of medical operations and chief clinical officer, Dr. Brien will oversee the areas of physician performance, quality and clinical integration at the hospital, officials said. He will also be executive sponsor of the CHI Texas Division orthopedic service line.

3. Previously, Dr. Brien was professor and executive vice chairman of the department of surgery and director of orthopedic surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He also was previously chief of staff at Cedars-Sinai, and has served on the board of directors and numerous Cedars-Sinai executive committees.

4. He also was on the board of councilors for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and is currently president of the California Orthopedic Association.

5. He received his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and is a graduate of Los Angeles-based University of Southern California.

6. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery and his fellowship in adult reconstructive surgery.

7. Dr. Brien was an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery and director of the Joint Replacement Program at USC. In addition, he was an associate clinical professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of California, Irvine.
