Banner taps Loyola executive to lead Banner-University Medicine: 5 things to know

Phoenix-based Banner Health appointed Chad Whelan, MD, CEO of Banner-University Medicine in Tucson, Ariz., according to an Arizona Daily Star report.

Here are five things to know:

1. Dr. Whelan previously served as president of Maywood, Ill.-based Loyola University Medical Center.

2. Prior to that, he was senior vice president and CMO at LUMC.

3. He was also a professor at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine.

4. In addition to his medical degree, Dr. Whelan earned a master’s degree in health management and policy from Ann Arbor-based University of Michigan.

5. In his new role, Dr. Whelan will provide leadership for Banner-University Medical Center Tucson, Banner-UMC South in Tucson as well as several clinics.
