Dr. Schatzlein most recently served as president and CEO for Ascension’s Saint Thomas Health in Nashville, Tenn. He has also previously worked with Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems in numerous leadership roles, including taking on operating oversight for all 10 of CHS’ Indiana hospitals.
Dr. Schatzlein practiced cardiothoracic and vascular surgery for 14 years, from 1980 to 1994. In 1985, he performed the first heart transplant in northern Indiana.
Dr. Schatzlein is leaving his current executive position within Ascension to focus on his work as chair of the Center for Medical Interoperability, incoming chair of the United Way Board and a member of the Council Capital CEO Council.
